Dear Sufi Trail friend ,

It's time for a good laugh and smiles. In this December newsletter we put forward writers, musicians and artists we love and admire and inspire us. Ready to go leave this year with a good laugh and a fare share of wisdom. Şeb-i Arûs on the 17th december is the night Rumi united with the Beloved. The remembrance ceremony is one of the many rituals that units us. For us is an exciting 40 days ahead as we are curious to see if we can collect the funding for the documentary Bansuri to Rumi.

We are live :)

The team is ready to make the documentary Bansuri to Rumi

To be able to make the DVD, organize the premiere and support the artist that features in this musical documentary we have started a crowdfunding campaign on Ulule. We hope to raise money by pre-selling the tickets for the premiere on the 2nd of May 2021 and of course all the goodies that Sufi Trail can offer are listed in the rewards of the campaign. As all of our journeys also this campaigning journey ends in 40 days. See you there!

Sinan Arat the rising star

We are a huge fan of Sinan Arat and it so happened that Kees van Boxtel was inspired by Sinan to start his quest of the sounds of the Ney in Turkey. Sinan Arat is famous in the Netherlands and studied Classical Ottoman music at the conservatory in Izmir. In Rotterdam he met Kees van Boxtel and both Ottoman and Indian Classical music found each other already there. They learned from the legendary bansuri master Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and ney master Kudsi Erguner. Sinan's career embodies the Sufi lifestyle and is humble in every way. The people who listened to Sinan said it was one big meditation and were looking to buy his CD. We have to wait just a little before it comes but in the meantime we enjoy the sparkles of this rising music star. On the Sufi Trail YouTube channel we made a Sinan fan playlist

Laugther is the music of the soul

Highlight for today is last year's artical by Vidhi Salla, called Mysticism through music and movement. Sge writes about the different styles of Sufism around the world. One of the best ways to learn is by your own experience. Movement is an important part of Sufsm. Rhythm and movement represent the life force and this rhythm, when used effectively, can help the seeker transcend to a state of spiritual intoxication and ecstasy. The happy face of the lady preforming in Faqeer Nimaana, choreographer Sanjukta Wagh will interpret the Suf Punjabi poetry of Shah Hussain.
