ABSTRACT
FAITH TOURISM: THE SUFI ROUTE
Anatolia has a rich potential in terms of culture and faith tourism. The place where Judaism, Christianity and Islam, among the monotheistic religions, matured and took their current positions, is Anatolia. The philosophy of Sufism led by Mevlana also developed in Anatolia and spread outside Anatolia. The Council of Europe took decisions on the creation of cultural routes in 1984 in order to revitalize the places of faith and bring them back to tourism. The routes were created by combining
routes of historical and architectural importance. Faith tourism is one of the types of tourism that creates these routes. Faith Routes aimed to present tangible and intangible touristic products of faith tourism.
The Sufi Path Route has been planned for the adoption and perpetuation of the philosophy of Sufism.
The road routes used by the Sufis in the past have formed the Sufi Way Route today. The Sufi Way Route has turned into a faith and culture route that groups that adopt the philosophy of Sufism explore and follow. In the thesis study, communication was established with the group who set their heart on Sufism and used the Sufi Way Route. Group chairman Sedat Çakır's views on the route were used. It has been observed that the Sufi Way Route is curious and visited by local and foreign tourists who adopt the Mevlana philosophy. On the Sufi Way route, visitors experience this route by walking from Istanbul to Konya in order to experience the paths of the Sufis to internalize the philosophy of Sufism, the places they worship, the communication and interaction they have established with God in nature. The Sufi Path Route was created to spread the philosophy of Sufism and Mevlana. At the same time, it was created with the aim of revitalizing the cities, villages and towns associated with this philosophy and making them a part of tourism. In 2014, Sedat Çakır and his wife Iris Bezuijen started work for the Sufi Path Route. The works were completed in 2019. The presence of Jewish, Christian and Muslim places on the route is the best example of Mevlana's philosophy of peace and love. The subject of the master's
thesis was determined as Faith Tourism: The Sufi Way Route. The aim of the master's thesis is to investigate the place, importance and route of the Sufi Way Route in faith tourism. In the thesis study, the literature and the views of the groups who experienced the route were used. As a research method,
semi-structured interview technique was used within the scope of exploratory research. In the findings obtained from the interviews with the participants, it was observed that although the Sufi Path Route was newly discovered, groups whose numbers increased every year followed this route.
