Pussy Riot is ruled to be an 'extremist organisation' and therefore banned from Russia
Yesterday, Monday December 15, Russia declared feminist protest punk-inspired collective 'Pussy Riot' as "extremist" - a label used to outlaw critics of President Vladimir Putin and his war in Ukraine.
A court in Moscow said it had upheld prosecution submissions "to recognise the punk band Pussy Riot as an extremist organisation and ban its activities on the territory of the Russian Federation". All five band members were sentenced in absentia to prison terms, ranging from 8 - 15 years!
Pussy Riot rejected those charges, describing them as politically motivated. The band's lawyer Leonid Solovyov told the independent outlet SOTAvision after the court hearing that it was "another action that shuts up those who speak out of turn".
The band, long-time opponents of the Kremlin, were expecting the decision. "The law is designed to erase Pussy Riot from the minds of Russian citizens" they said on social media last week. The label makes any interactions with the group illegal in Russia, even likes in social media, past or present, effectively outlawing it in the country. Pussy Riot activists, who have been living in exile for years, have consistently criticised Putin and have campaigned against the war in Ukraine.

10cc - Hot in Holland
Spice up your life with 10cc!
The British band that has produced high-quality hit-after-hit in the 70s and 80s is still around, after over 50 years.
Co-founder Graham Gouldman leads the current touring band, and their popularity is rising strongly again, not only in the U.K. but also for example in the USA, Australia and New-Zealand, Scandinavia, Belgium, and indeed The Netherlands.
Last month, 10cc's longest theatre-tour in The Netherlands in over a decade brought the band to 10 theatres for fully sold out, fully seated, shows, servicing all corners of The Netherlands.
All shows were a big success. Audiences were thrilled and enjoyed the 100 minutes non-stop set filled with hits such as 'The Things We Do for Love', 'Dreadlock Holiday', 'I'm Not In Love', and 'The Wall Street Shuffle'.
Big thanks go out to all theatres and venues: Oosterpoort Groningen, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Theater Heerlen, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, Musis Arnhem, Zwolse Theaters in Zwolle (i.c.w. Hedon Zwolle), De Harmonie Leeuwarden, De Doelen Rotterdam, De Kring Roosendaal, and Het Park in Hoorn (NH), for the wonderful result and for the amazing work.
Big thanks also go out to 10cc's tech crew who did a brilliant job under a lot of time pressure.
Big thanks definitely also go out to the worldwide agent, based in the U.K., who predicted 10cc would now be 'Hot in Hoorn', and to 10cc's guitarist Rick Fenn who in his rider asked for very hot fresh peppers in the dressing room. Towards the end of the tour, he had received way too many, even though much to Rick's surprise, 10cc's excellent new drummer Ben Stone turned out to be a 'hot peppers' lover too. Graham, Rick, and Ben were joined on stage by Iain Hornal and Alex Stone, who both did an excellent job as well.
