All of us are still basking in the afterglow of the absolutely wonderful festival it was this year! Such a warm atmosphere, friendly people, great shows and workshops, and more visitors than ever. We have received so many thank you’s we are blushing. For those who performed, the photos that were taken will become available online so you can download your memories. A big thank you to all who contributed, especially our hardworking team of glorious volunteers!

Plans are already underway for the seventh Shimmy Shake Festival to take place on the 6, 7 and 8 November 2020, so block these dates for next year to be sure to be there. Each year our program gets better and so does the organization. First headliner for next year: APRIL ROSE! She will teach Bellydance Cohesion and ticket sales will start early July so keep that in mind.

The work on the 13th (!) Talent Search has begun. Do you know that at the very first one in 2007 Tjarda and Renate as the Uzume, and Jihane El Fahidi took part? She and Aisa Lafour danced a duet in a following edition. This year we have 5 categories you can join, including just for fun. Also added to the program this year: a Talent Search in Amsterdam. Join in for a great experience and the chance, if you want, to get coaching.

By now everyone knows the Golden Girls, the Shimmy Shake project for women above 65 lead by Maya Acid/Renate Bakker who dance together once a week and at our events. Each year we organize something special for them (extra workshops, new costumes last year) and this year it is very special – the Merry Belly Xmas! 50 seniors will be treated to 3 course meal with shows. In the preceding weeks they get workshops in Stage Make-Up, movement and Christmas decorations. Partyyyyy!

How better to start the year than by dancing and having fun together! Saturday January 18, Shimmy Shake and Greenstone Belly Dance host an afternoon Hafla in Cuartito Azul Rotterdam, to kick off the year and beat the winter blues. How can you participate? Just sign up via the Shimmy Shake website (click here) and come along! The Hafla is a perfect, low key place to perform. We will meet each other in January!
