Dear Sufi Trail friend , The turnaround home, after being on three different trails for two months, the bike sticker team is back in the Netherlands to enjoy the winter cosiness. Life outside was again sunny, loaded with friendly people, food, and adventure. We kept in touch with Cor Butter from Holland, who is the treasurer of the Adelbertus-well in Heiloo, the Netherlands. He was on a hiking mission to connect the Adelbertus-well to a well in Konya, and he succeeded! Autumn is a wonderful time to let the beautiful journeys integrate, in digital form, or another, which makes travelling and reminiscing possible. Our sister foundation Sultans Trail organizes a meeting day for travellers and interested parties, we meet with special speakers on November 20, and the entrance is free. Cor in Konya and finds the well
Cor Butter has walked the Sufi Trail in September and October with a mission to connect the Adelbertus well in the Netherlands with a well in Konya, Türkiye.
Cor found the well in Konya without any difficulty, just outside the city near the beautiful caves of Sille. Fortunately, he was in Turkey at the same time as we did and luckily we both had a Turkish SIM card, we could regularly follow Cor's experiences with an evening phone call.
It was very pleasant in this way, and we heard all the news almost immediately. It was therefore a nice joke to send each other all kinds of wells because there are quite a few in Turkey. But luckily Cor did not let himself be fooled by fop wells and without any doubt found the only real well that we can connect with the Adelbertus well in Egmond-Binnen.
We received the following message from Cor: “I found the well in Sille, a place where a lot has happened.”

Stamp in Akşehir at Mimoza bike cafe
In addition to a good repair for your bike, a delicious coffee, you can now get your official Sufi Trail stamp in Akşehir. One for your collection in your Sufi Trail passport and the coffee is really delicious, we tested it. They used to have a café focused on good coffee, and they have now switched to a café with still good coffee but with the main aim of repairing bicycles, a good move. Mimoza is run by bicycle enthusiasts, and they have regular bicycle tours in and around Aksehir. Mimoza is a new partner for the Sufi Trail in the region and besides you get your stamp as a hikers or cyclists you can get some information about Aksehir and surroundings, get your bicycle repaired. We are happy with this new partnership. |

We like to highlight our friends in Çamdibi from İznik Zeytin Evi, we had the most exclusive breakfast, and it was busy in İznik because of the world nomad games 2022. They were ever so helpful to host us for the night and off course the breakfast is a memory to last for a long, long time. Johan Sufi hiking pin

Johan van den Berg and his son Rutger have walked the Sufi Trail in May from Istanbul to Konya. After arriving in Konya, Johan met Marcel Schuurmans on his way to Jerusalem and together they have decided to walk till the Syrian/ Turkish border on the Mecca trail. We were already so happy that he has the Sufi hiking pin, but even more happy to see the photo of Johan, who happily sent this beautiful photo with the Sufi hiking pin. We cycled on the paths that Johan and Marcel had paved for us and Johan buys a hiking pin from the newsletter we made. This keeps the flywheel turning and happiness takes precedence in many moments. Sultans Trail, Traveller Day 2022
Yes, we are home and then what? Share, share, share everyone has gathered so much content, spiritual nourishment, insights and also important information. Sharing your story is an essential part of a journey. Fortunately, there are countless possibilities to do this, but the most fun is always seeing each other. The Sultans Trail therefore organizes the traveller's day! Write the date in your diary because there will be like-minded, beautiful stories and also the opportunity to buy the book by Eus van der Grift, who also cycled the Sufi Trail. We are of course also there and hope to welcome you on this day for us who like to travel or enjoy the travel stories. |

Art from Konya, Sufi doll
A very sweet Sufi from the artists from Konya! This time, a plaster mould was made for the cast version of Sufi. The logo designed by Merel van Essen has already taken many forms. The beauty of the place where it comes from, and the makers know some hikers well. The artist café Nar-ı Aşk in Konya is also where you get your Sufi Trial certificate after the pilgrimage. She makes especially for Sufi Trail, keep this Sufi statue. Would you also like a copy at home? No problem? You can order them via our webshop. The delivery time is slightly longer than usual because it is all handmade and delivered from Turkey. But as with many beautiful things, patience pays off. |

Improved markings in Turkey
|
|
Due to the attention that the Sufi Trail has received this year, a lot has been refined. Among other things, the markings, GPX and stickers have been significantly improved, and it becomes more difficult to get lost. During the 2022 walking caravan, parts were marked with paint and some parts were tried out new routes. Now we will also implement those parts in the 2023 route. Before we went cycling in September, together with Linda Pijl, Odile Keulers and Mehmet Kahraman, we cleared parts around Yalova of fallen trees and remarked on the route. The route section between Hamzali and Orhangazi has been swept away by a new road, and we, unfortunately, had to develop a new route through the remaining bushes. The old route that was so beautiful is unfortunately no longer there. For Kaynarca, a tricky point has been removed from the route and therefore also better to walk. All in all, a lot of improvements make the life of the Sufi pilgrims more pleasant and the hiking experience becomes fuller too. Bike markings:The Sufi trail cycling team put up around 400 new stickers in September and stripped the route of some pain points. Developing of hiking and cycling routes is a long-term and multi-year project, with each development and journey the route is refined little by little. We thank the walkers and cyclists who have hiked and cycled the Sufi trail in recent years and sent us valuable information about the route. We could never have refined it so well without feedback. You can contribute to the development by being a volunteer or by being a member. |
