Dear Sufi Trail friend , Along the Sufi Trail, where whispers of the ancients linger, Longing pulses through veins, a yearning to be free, To roam the Anatolian high, under the vast sky's tender gaze, Mountains stand as guardians, ancient and wise, Each step a dance, a communion with the earth, In the stillness of nature, the soul finds its rebirth. Love, Iris Bezuijen & Sedat Cakir

Family with baby in the snow
An incredible story of a French family. Suddenly, we received a message from Marion D. She said that they were in Istanbul and wanted to cycle the Sufi Trail. This family with three children and a baby travels a lot. We thought it was cold, but of course we wanted to help them right away. No sooner said than done. What a cool family, two children cycle the Sufi Trail themselves and the baby was allowed to stay with dad. The pictures don't lie, they really cycled straight through Anatolia, snow and all. And then also camping. Great respect for the family, they continue towards Kaş on the Turkish south coast. The children love it and as we have often seen with a family, the children get energy for ten during the trip. Here is the link with their Sufi Trail story, it is in French, but with Google Translate you can now convert everything to the desired language. Read their blog here

Cor fraternisation, brotherhood
We already knew it was special that our friend from Egmond-Binnen was an extraordinary hiker… He typically wakes up at early sunrise, hikes till at the latest four o’clock in the afternoon, and sleeps where he gets invited or if necessary outside. He already said it’s the last option but also no problem. Not only that, but he hiked from home in the Netherlands from one of the holy sources that we visit weekly, passed Konya. He connected the holy source on the Sufi Trail with the one in Sille near the Devil's Bridge. Only this year, Cor now reached as far as Mecca. He hiked his last stretch from Kuwait to Mecca and passed many brothers and sisters. The last hike towards Mecca was to enhance the brotherhood between beliefs. He hiked to show that as a Christian, he is welcomed in Muslim homes and countries as a brother. This fraternisation inspired Cor to make a film about the last hike, where he for the first time slept outside for one night because he turned down three invites. As the warm welcomes and love he received from all his brothers and sisters, he wanted to show the world what the real connection is between people, and that all the propaganda and media have nothing to do with the journey of life we all walk. Cor’s hike shows that with every step towards Mecca, the deeper meaning of Cor’s journey is revealed.

Season has started
Finally, every spring comes as a very welcome start to a new life. The little green leaves are ready to pop. The flowers in full colour that make living so much easier. This winter was particularly long and hard. The seasons normally have their function, but with the current massacre of innocent people, it was a hard season for all humans. We feel deeply for the loss, also the different standards for one or a human, it seems that we can’t get peace into the ancient caravan routes that we owe so much. Of course, we carry on, but I am sure that people from all walks of life had a hard winter and are hoping time and season will walk us into the new era where we can live and love and hike to the light in peace. The Sufi Trail season started early, Randy was our first hiker and opened the Sufi trail hiking season with Ahmet and Linda in Yalova. Then to our surprise world travelling family of Marion and Julian with three kids where our honourable quests, and cycled the Sufi Trail together. A short introduction from there blog:

Anna (6 months) Already a fan of rear wheels, I don't really understand what's happening to me. The best: surrounded by my brother, my sister and my parents, with a specific trailer, technical underwear and my washable diapers, I have everything I need to go to the ends of the world with peace of mind! Cons: I wouldn't be able to show my learning from the first months to the family in real time... Agathe (6 years old) I like to draw and do manual work. The most: I'm happy to visit lots of countries and see animals that I don't see when I'm in France. I'm going to sing songs to Dad on the tandem. Cons: I don't want to leave my friends. I'm a little sad to see my grandmas and grandpas less. Antoine (8 years old) I love building cabins and being outside. I am very happy to go on a trip with my 2 little sisters. The pros: I'll play with children I don't know, who will teach me different games and who don't speak the same language as me. I'm going to go alone on my bike and if I do well, I might have panniers during the trip. Cons: I don't want to leave my friends and my house.

Courageous, gentle but firm 😉 (special shout out to friends from the Loiret), sporty, enduring, resistant, hard-working, sociable and enthusiastic, she is the perfect woman... for adventure. The pluses: refocusing on the essentials for a year: enjoying our family life, meeting others. Introduce our children to other cultures. The minuses: the idea of repairing a flat tire makes her happy in advance 😉 and she categorically refuses to allow her or our children to be cold.

Passionate about outdoor life, a fan of elevation gain and wild life, he put together a colorful itinerary for our little family... in “always more” mode! The best: On the route, temperatures between -10° and + 40°, very mountainous and rocky stages,... nothing scares him. He always has good ideas and always manages to solve problems. A handyman, he dismantled and reassembled all our equipment and left nothing to chance in terms of equipment. So, everyone saddle up! The minuses: the chosen routes require flying, our impact on the environment takes a hit…

We are heavenly impressed with their winter cycling tour on the Sufi Trail, it was very cold and they did it miraculously together with the lovely people they met off-course along the way. Baby Anna is still being breastfed, so one big bow to their amazing courage! The Sufi Trail caravan will surely be a hike in remembrance of all the beautiful souls that have left us so early and the for us so close friend Mohammed El-Fers. The spiritual father of the Sufi Trail. Life and after afterlife are close, we better hike it before we are gone.

Farewell of our inspirator — Mohammed El-Fers
Sufi Trail's spiritual father left for the spirit realm Mohamed El-Fers was not just a dear friend, but also an inspirational figure for all the routes that were developed. His presence was truly impactful, and his absence has left a noticeable void in the lives of many. It is often in moments of loss that we fully grasp the significance of someone in our lives, and Mohamed El-Fers was undoubtedly a significant part of the community. His heritage is vast, reflecting a rich tapestry of traditions, values, and experiences that continue to resonate with those who knew him. In honouring his memory, it is fitting that a special tribute will be paid to him during the next year's Sufi Trail hiking caravan. The decision to organise a hike to visit Mohamed El-Fers' shrine in Akören, Türkiye, demonstrates people's deep respect and admiration for him. This pilgrimage to his final resting place symbolizes the enduring impact he had on those around him and the legacy he leaves behind. By embarking on a journey to his shrine, participants will not only pay their respects but also celebrate his life and the contributions he made to the community on so many levels. His little green book, a mini-biography of Mevlana Rumi alone, is a legacy in the Netherlands. And he left us with so many treasures, we’re still discovering all his hidden talents through his big variety of friends in all corners of life. The act of hiking for three additional days after the Sufi Trail hiking caravan is a poignant gesture that underlines the profound influence Mohamed El-Fers had on shaping the routes and experiences of hikers. It is a way to extend his legacy through shared experiences and a shared connection to the trails he helped develop. This extended hike serves as a tribute to his memory and a way to keep his spirit alive in the hearts of those who knew him. Mohamed El-Fers was a cherished individual whose impact on the community and the routes developed is immeasurable. The upcoming hike to his shrine in Türkiye is not just a physical journey but a spiritual one, honouring his memory, legacy, and the enduring bond he shared with all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
