Conincx Pop celebrates 40th edition
Conincx Pop Festival started in 1981 and is celebrating its 40th edition on July 06! It is also the 20th edition that Paperclip Agency is the exclusive talent buyer for the festival.
Conincx Pop is a free festival (yes, still free entrance!), known for the great relaxed atmosphere for the audience and backstage. Every year the alternative program attracts 3000-5000 visitors: music lovers from a wider region as well as young and old, small children to 80+ from the village.
The program this year is extra festive, with young talent as well as seasoned musicians, young and old playing for young and old. Here's the line-up:

Jill Barber released 'ENCORE!', new album with French chansons
A bit over a week ago, on June 14, Jill Barber has released her new album 'ENCORE!', full with covers of French chansons. It is 10 years after she released 'Chansons', her first album with covers of French chansons, still her most successful record to date globally. 'Chansons' has been streamed over 120 million times, with more than 35 million listeners in the past year alone. Jill Barber says: "For me, singing in French is an embodied, sensual experience… it’s a new language in which to explore and express myself artistically- and be vulnerable."
In February/March, Jill Barber will come to Europe, so we can enjoy her take on French classics sung with her wonderful soft voice.

I Muvrini is coming back to The Netherlands with 'Best of' tour
In February 2025, Corsican singers I Muvrini are coming back to the Netherlands, with their 'Best of' tour. All shows have started the ticket sales now. The music of I Muvrini is known for the commitment for social and environmental issues, as well as for being very comforting. At previous successful tours, they only had two or three shows in The Netherlands. This is the first time in more than two decades that they are coming to four theaters: Theater Heerlen, Theaters Tilburg, De Harmonie in Leeuwarden and Cpunt in Hoofddorp (near Amsterdam). Pussy Riot: Riot Days available for Dutch shows in December and March
After a successful tour with four Dutch and one Belgian show in April this year, Pussy Riot will be available again with their show Riot Days in December and March. At this show with live music, theater and multimedia all combined, they show the history of Pussy Riot as well as their commitment to Ukraine. Still so urgent and impressive!

Crash Test Dummies tour 30 Years Anniversary "God Shuffled His Feet"
In 2024 it is 30 years ago, that the Canadian band Crash Test Dummies published their album “God Shuffled His Feet”. It was their most successful album, 45 weeks in the Dutch top 100 album charts, and made it to no. 6! Their hit song “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm” has been watched more than 11 million times, another memorable song of them is “Superman’s Song“. In October they will visit the Netherlands for five shows, to celebrate this anniversary. See below for dates.

We're going on a summer holiday! (Yes, Cliff Richard.)
But not to Cambodia! (Yes, Dead Kennedys.)
We've purchased Interrail tickets, the Global variant (10 days of travel within maximum 2 months). And we're going to use these to the max this summer, in under a month.
Our trip will bring us to towns in Germany, Poland, Czechia, Austria, and Slovenia.
It's going to be fun; hell, it already is fun! The preparation is half the fun!
By being an independent booking agent and promoter since 1981, I've learned a lot about logistics: travel, affordable hotels, making reservations, itineraries etc., and of course we have an extensive network of friendly contacts all over Europe (and beyond).
It feels really good to be able to use all that experience and goodwill for our own 'tour'. No worries, we will not be playing music!

Music managers: majority lives precarious
The MMF-UK did their bi-annual research again; 176 members participated. This time the research focused on the workforce: staff, freelancers, expanding, scaling up.
90% of the participants is self-employed or works freelance. 60% earns less than minimum full time wage, while the workload is unpredictable, with hardly any financial safety net. Only 26% say that they contribute to a retirement fund. No wonder that the amount of managers that are still in the field after 5 years is dropping significantly. Apprenticeship and internship opportunities have even dropped by 50% since 2019!
While it looks dire at the bottom, positive trends can be seen at the top. 17% of the participants claim that they earn more than GBP 50.000 per year. There is also a 30% increase in management companies investing between GBP 2500-5000 in skills development and staff training.
Alongside of the recommendation for the MMF itself, their members and the government to prioritize and invest in skills, internship and apprenticeship, there is a recommendation for industry bodies too: advocate for better practices such as timely payments, standard contracts, and much more support for self-employees/freelancers who bear extra social tasks, like being a carer, or becoming/being a parent.
I think that the situation is similar in other countries, and similar with booking agents too. But usually we all don't talk about it, about the huge work-load, about the unpredictable work hours. So everyone who is suffering from the financial and social precarious situation still thinks to be the only one. It takes guts to start talking about it. Only once you start talking about it, you will discover that for example many people working in the music business have suffered from a burn-out, and that you are definitely not the only one who is annoyed about late payments etc.
I would wish that we all could be more open to each other, without fear of being sacked or losing clients.
