President's update

Welcome to 2022! We have all our fingers and toes crossed that we will see many of you in person at ISME18 in Lausanne this August!

In keeping with our decision to keep our emails short and let you choose to read more under the links in our newsletter below, here just a few highlights:

• We are delighted to welcome Raquel Silva Peixoto as our new in-coming ISME Vice President! Raquel will begin her term at the end of our ISME18 meeting in Lausanne this August, when Phil Hugenholtz becomes our new ISME President for the next two years.

• We are also delighted to welcome two new members to our International Board, David Walsh and Thomas Curtis, who will begin their terms this September, when Yoichi Kamagata and Julia Vorholt step down after serving on the board for six years. Many thanks Yoichi and Julia for all the time and effort you have devoted to ISME!

• Another warm welcome to Jillian Petersen, who became an Editor-in-Chief of ISMEJ - congratulations! We are most grateful to Kazuya Watanabe for all he has done for ISMEJ as an Editor-in-Chief - thank you Kazuya!  

News the Early Career Scientist Committee

Over the summer, the ISME Early Career Scientist Committee (ISME ECSC) has reviewed applications to the call for new members and interviewed the short-listed candidates. We are thrilled to introduce our new committee members Dr. Ahmed Shibl; Dr. Ashley Dungan; Dr. Emil Ruff; Dr. Adoukè Nadège Agbodjato and Dr. Anna Dragos. The role of the chair has been passed on from Dr. Jillian Petersen to Dr. Laetitia Wilkins.
