New Project - Our Creative Reset

Our Creative Reset is a research program for culture after Covid19, exploring new principles and strategies for cultural work, policy, and solidarity. This includes a broad scope, ranging from an autumn camp around the theme of 'post-precarity', experiments with hybrid (off- and online) cultural events, and models for decentral redistribution of income. Principles of Post-Precarity
By Sepp Eckenhaussen

‘What are we to make of someone who says they love their work and cannot imagine doing anything they enjoy more, yet earn so little that they can never take a holiday, let alone afford insurance or a pension? How are we to think about a person who is passionate about the creative work they do up to 80 hours per week yet feel fearful that they will not be able to have the children they long for because of the time and money pressures they face?’... continue reading

4 Demands for Economically Responsible Art Education By Sepp Eckenhaussen Our future generations of artists deserve to be prepared for the unruly reality of the labor market of the cultural sector. We therefore find it hard to understand why many art students graduate without knowledge of the Fair Practice Code or the Guideline for Artists’ Fees; have no idea about the trade unions and professional organizations that represent them; hardly dare say ‘no’ to underpaid labor; have not thought about whether and how they want to sell their work; have no experience with funding applications... continue reading

Digital Esoterism Or to be a Witch in the Age of Surveillance Capitalism

by Ginevra Petrozzi

This text will follow the structure of a well-known Tarot spread: the Celtic Cross. This arrangement is made up of ten positions. Each position unveils a different aspect of a situation, and whilst reading may seem disconnected from the others. Yet, it is quite important to read every position as it is, one by one, as you would do with Tarots. As in Tarots, a card by itself doesn’t really mean anything, but when put next to the others it becomes part of a scheme –– almost a path... continue reading

Beautiful World – Typo-Film

Directed by Mieke Gerritzen

Beautiful World is a film about a feeling that prevails the world at present. This feeling is one of joy, inspiration and refreshing innovation, but also one of being oppressed and manipulated through technology and economization. I call it a feeling because we can’t concretely define the situation: we can’t speak of left or right, black or white, text or image. It is a grey area, in which a mix of different cultures and countries, tradition and innovation, commercialism and idealism is searching for legitimacy. A world in which fusion and blending are forming an image of the future... continue reading

Now You See Me: Visibility of the Lesbian Identity on TikTok

By Dunja Nešović

In April 2020, I was in my second month of lockdown. The particular state of isolation I was in made my digital life more tangible, and my ‘real life’ intensively more digital. Around that time, TikTok started to gain more popularity and to become a social networking phenomenon which I didn’t delve into until I found out about ‘lesbians on TikTok’ through a discussion on my Twitter feed. TikTok lesbians were talked about as a particular category of both platform users, and lesbians in general, which some perceived as either fun, cringe, attractive, educational and/or just purely fascinating... continue reading

APRIA #3 – Urgent Publishing

Edited by Miriam Rasch and Nishant Shah.

Publishing can be a slow business—frustratingly so when you want to participate in societal debates that evolve ever faster. That’s especially the case when you want to elevate such debates with high-quality materials—well-researched, well-designed, sustainable publications. It gets even more tantalising when you’re after a public outside your own (academic) bubble and want to build critical and communal audiences. In the project Making Public, these experiences and ambitions were the starting point for two years of experimentations and conceptualising around the notion of ‘urgent publishing.’... continue reading
