Into Space
An inspiring repertoire selection around the beauties that nature offers. Black Pencil, praised by Opus Klassiek as “rich in contrast, diverse, adventurous, grotesque and surprising” is again a guest at Stinze Stiens with “Into Space” and will perform compositions by Calliope Tsoupaki, Yannis Kyriakides, Meriç Artaç, Aart Strootman,
John Cage, Roderik de Man and Kate Moore.

SIT FAST CONCERTS
Beneath a Pale Moon
Black Pencil supports talents of the new generation. The last concert of the Sit Fast concert series of the season will be given by BLOCK4 recorder quartet.
“We use our programs to tell the audience a story. BLOCK4's debut album combines a selection of stories best told by candlelight: waiting for a loved one under the cover of darkness; listen to the song of the nightingale; and as the witching hour draws ever closer, the supernatural is never far away.”
Sit Fast Concerts is a concert series by Black Pencil in Amsterdam, in collaboration with Stadsherstel. The title of the series comes from a work by Renaissance composer Christopher Tye. Sit Fast means 'sitting firmly' and listening. At the end of Sit Fast he wrote: 'Sing true and fear not for I am true and fear not'. One cannot dream of a better motto in music performance!!

THE GREEN SECRET
New classical music festival!
We proudly announce ‘Festival The Green Secret’ (Festival Het Groene Geheim), a brand new festival for classical music!
The festival is a collaboration between Black Pencil and Goede Rede Concerten. The beautiful location of Stadslandgoed De Kemphaan in our home state of Almere is the place to be on June 16, 2024.
During this first edition you will enjoy beautiful performances by Black Pencil, Dutch String Collective, BOI AKIH, Beate Loonstra, Ensemble Tryptique, and Oorkaan at indoor and outdoor locations. Ticket sales started!

BLACK PENCIL IN ISTANBUL
We just returned from Istanbul, where we performed our program Into space at Borusan Music House, with compositions by C. Tsoupaki, Y. Kyriakides, M. Artaç, A. Strootman, J. Cage, E. Monfort and K. Moore.
Our collaboration with Turkey dates back to 2010. Since then we have performed in many different locations, collaborated with the most important art institutions, collaborated with Turkish composers and given workshops. We have exciting plans for the coming years! Such as the new project 'Maiden Tower', inspired by this unique tower in the middle of the Bosphorus, we'll organize the Black Pencil Composition Prize in Turkey and new collaborations!
