Dear Sufi Trail friend ,

Creative minds are a joy forever especially in a world full of technical toys and where abundance is the specialty of mother earth. With our new helicopter view of the holy ground Heiloo, we experience these new ways to explore the world from above. We put together a great Sufi Trail film-crew and are eager to share our first sneak preview.

love,

The world from above

The Sufi Trail team is going up. Vertical travel to Turkey is somewhat delayed and in the meantime, we fly up checking the Sufi Trail highlight in Heiloo. Horizontal travel with the new drone. Six times a year we hike in Heiloo and currently apart from the book 40 days Heiloo the project will document the longest pilgrimage in the Netherlands covering 904km. It's a hiking round of 22,6 km and repeats the same route for 40 days. The pilgrimage deepens the concept of repetition and is accompanied by imam Abdulwahid van Bommel who translated 40 zikrs for each day.

Uzbekistan by Floor Herbrink

Forgotten empires exist. This is no Indiana Jones episode. There are many stories to be told about Uzbekistan’s present, but more about its thriving history. To learn about this ex-Sovjet nation’s past makes one almost nostalgic, it’s that rich.

Uzbekistan lies in the middle of an enormous piece of land that you find after you have crossed from Turkey through the mountains into Iran and from there eastwards, into the vast desert. All the countries that lie there end with -stan. This specific piece of land had been involved in power struggles with the Persians and King Alexander of Macedonia and eventually, after the Arab invasion in the 7th century, it came under muslim rule.

Because it had a central position between the western (Persia, Rome, Greece, Mesopotamia, Arabia) and the Eastern (Chinese and Indian) empires, Uzbekistan has been the witness of ancient trade routes on its soil, the most famous one being the Silk Road. Gold, slaves, spices, grains, fruits, art, musical instruments and ideas, philosophy and religions were being interchanged between different civiliziations. Uzbekistan was at the crossroads of material and intellectual development. read more...

Seekers of Unity

As-salamu Alaykum,

I hope this message finds you well. My name is Zevi, writing to you from Israel. I am reaching out to share my project with you.

After receiving a formal religious Jewish education, I began self-educating in other faiths. Having always been drawn to Kabbalah (Jewish Mysticism), I spent many years studying and reading all I could about the Mystical traditions of other faiths. In my studies, the strong theme of unity struck me.

I have found particular beauty in the teachings of Sufism. Some ideas which particularly spoke to me were that of Tawhid and Wahdat al-Wujud. In Kabbalah we have very similar beliefs and I wanted to make more people aware of the crossovers between our two traditions.

I have created a YouTube channel to spread and increase my knowledge, and contribute to peace and greater understand between our people. My latest video dives deep into the similarities between Sufism and Kabbalah.

Please watch and share the video with all you believe will benefit.

It should reach as far as possible to spread the light of oneness.
Ramadan Mubarak!
