Dear Sufi Trail friend ,

Autumn is slowly making way for winter, and with it a different way of travelling. The vibrant colours of the autumn leaves are fading and the days are getting shorter. For many people, this means that the need for warmth and cosiness is increasing.
And we are mostly getting more and more appreciative of the journeys made and the people we meet.
Digesting your luck and experiences of the year all come together when you finally sit down and relax after yet again amazing journeys with lovely people. Hope all of you readers had a similar year.
Already we are getting ready to embark on a mystical journey along the Sufi Trail for next year, where ancient wisdom illuminates the path to inner peace.

When you're warm and comfy, it's time to listen to our podcasts:
Love,
Iris Bezuijen & Sedat Çakır

Podcast Sufi Trail part 1

We have been promoting long distance hiking and cycling for a few years now in several ways, this is a new way to enjoy our work.
As winter is coming, we will have some time to listen. Not only to our hearts but also to the newly transformed guidebook into a podcast.

This year, we hiked with our lovely Jamie, and we were so surprised about what he told us about the guidebook.
He actually brought rose seeds for all the hikers to plant along the Sufi Trail. I still get goosebumps when I think about the wonderful journey we had.
Thanks to Jamie, we knew what was in the guidebook. As after a few years, you tend to forget what you have written some years ago.

We are reminded of our journeys daily as they nourish our souls, and the people you meet keep poping up in our daily lives.

We're over the moon that our hiking caravan concept is a bog success. Already fully booked, and we even had to consider an extra car if more people wanted to come with us.

We are leaving the second of May from Yalova. Are you considering coming?
There is a tiny place left in our first car, the details you can find in our shop, and you can also get some inspiration from previous hiking caravans.

Cycling fun and mountains

We met in Ormanika, Ahmet Yigit's campsite. Linda Pijl welcomed us very kindly in Yalova, and we have already been pushed a bit by the rain. Unfortunately, we had to skip Bilecik because of that. In Osmaneli, our guardian angel has again provided everyone with a nice stamp, and we are currently resting in Eskişehir.

Everything is going well, except for Jopi's bike problem, but Hasan and his friend are so kind to drive all the way 500 km to Ankara and back, so that they can repair the bike there. A lot is always arranged in Türkiye, so that Jopi's trip can still go ahead.

The rest of the group goes to the hamam with Mehmet to get a good scrubbing. We will go to the highlands at dawn. I am already looking forward to the Taurus Mountains, but for now, we will enjoy our Sufi adventure to Konya.

Just a small pick from the places we stay there a adventure on their own. We try to use our tent as much as we can, but we also have made some good friends along the Sufi Trail who have welcomed us already so many years and have lovely places to rest, eat and enjoy each other's company.

Love the Turkish news style

There is nothing new under the sun, so stop buying and keep going. But we have to love the Turkish news. As soon as we cycle with our group in Türkiye, we get spotted and newsagents come to film us and interview, in this case Wim and Ellie.

It's really great to be on the road, mostly we get asked how do we sleep and if we like Türkiye?
And we all know we love it, and the hospitality of the people really is one of a kind.
But also the news reporters, thank you again for making us news.

One more note on our cycling caravan is that you really do not need much! Al you need for years fits in two little bags. Often we feel more healthy on the road than at home.
And if necessary, you really do only need one T-shirt for a long time.

It was really a great group and our cycling caravan became a family along the way because you share 24 hours together and this is something else entirely that a cup of tea on a rainy afternoon.

Mohamed El-Fers tells the story of Mevlana, a 13th-century Persian poet and Sufi mystic. Mevlana was born in Balkh, Afghanistan, and later moved to Konya, Turkey, where he became the leader of a Sufi order. He is considered one of the greatest poets and mystics of all time, and his works continue to inspire people today. In this podcast, El-Fers discusses Mevlana's life, his poetry, and his philosophy. He also talks about the importance of Mevlana's message of love and tolerance in the world today.

Due to the many positive reactions, we can already confirm that the hiking caravan for 2024 is full. You can still join next year, but also this will be the last time the hiking caravan runs. After 2025 we hope that the Sufi Trail is established and well-marked for individual hikers or groups. We of course will keep the trail in maintenance and update the guidebooks.

The dates for 2025
2nd of May till 12th of June

Would you also like to take a walk or experience the entire 40-day feeling (or part of the Sufi Trail) along the way? Then sign up.

It still seems far away, but before you know it, the seasons will fly by. The date is known, so you can consider whether it fits into your agenda. Check the website for details and last year's experiences.

Cyclingcaravan further to Mecca

Afbeelding
For the cycling caravan 2024, there are no spots left and for the next year, you can book online.

Note that 2025 is also the last change to join this event. The cycling groups are set to a limit of 12 persons.

Further to Mecca,

From Europe, our sister hiking and cycling organization Sultans Trail gives you an excellent connection from Vienna, Austria to Istanbul in Türkiye. You follow the traces of the Romans, Ottomans and local heroes.

From Istanbul to Konya you hike and cycle on quite well-marked paths of the Sufi Trail. Sufi Trail guardians help you on your pilgrimage to Rumi.

From Konya on, you follow the Mecca trail to the Syrian border, we have a GPX for Jordan and a route towards Mecca. We hope to develop this in due time.

Going to Asia, you can try the lesser-developed Rumi Trail. We have a cycled GPX in Türkiye from Kilis towards Konya.

Volunteers of these trails are happy to assist you where possible with your preparations.
